Structural and Functional Analysis of Transcription Kinases Title:
Abstract:
The eukaryotic Mediator complex, including a large core and a Cdk8 kinase module, plays an essential role in the regulation of RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription. A detailed understanding of Mediator’s structure and interactions is critical for determining how the complex influences transcription initiation and conveys regulatory information to the basal transcription machinery. In addition, Cdk7 is one subunit within the general transcription factor TFIIH that phosphorylated the CTD of Pol II. My talk will focus on the structure and function of two transcription kinases, Cdk8 and Cdk7, and discuss how they are activated through non-canonical mechanisms.
